Valheim developer buys real horse

The phenomenal success of "Valheim" (which is currently selling 6.8 million copies) has brought about a major change at developer Iron Gate Studios. The team is still working remotely, but has found a snazzy new office, hired lots of new talent ...... And now they've decided to buy a pony (aka small horse).

The latest development update says: "Say hello to Valheim the horse! We worked with our friends at Skövde ryttarförening (Sköve riding club) and got a new horse (a pony to be exact) for their riding school. Beautiful horses, aren't they? (This is not meant to introduce horses into the game, but rather a field trip to the stables for Iron Gate to meet their four-legged colleagues.)"

Check out this pony!

As well as some minor tweaking details, such as an overhaul of the Harpoon mechanics, the post continues to talk about the progress of the next major update to Valheim, called Hearth and Home.

"The update is taking shape and the past month has been very productive, with many new items and mechanics being finalized. Of course, we don't want to rush the update and there are still many more things we want to create before release." In the post, the studio adds that it will not set a release date until it is "ready to announce it with our hearts," and promises more updates in June.

There are also a few zoomed-in teaser images, so those who want to see the fencing up close are in luck.

While official updates are obviously a big deal, one aspect of Valheim's continued success is the rapid rise of a large and creative modding community. Whether designing a huge ship or cracking open Odin's powerful magic cylinder, players are building incredible things on its foundation. In other words, let's hope for a "Valheim the Pony" mod.
