General
Creepy action adventure "Graven" is now available in Early Access.

The action-adventure "Graven" commands you, an unjustly exiled and disgraced priest, to eradicate evil and corruption from the gothic medieval world by destroying the Eldritch Terror. Weapons include not only the Wrath of Justice (magically assisted, of course), but also wrist-mounted crossbows, flails, explosive peat launchers, and much more.

Andy Chalk played the early stages of "Graven" last year and liked the strategic use of magic in this "Hexen"-inspired game. Lead designer David Kuehner promised that later in the game, players will be able to use spells to solve puzzles. He used a lightning spell to magnetize igneous rock, which could draw enemy bullets away or suspend open gates. At the time Andy played, Graven had one main job: to "shoot, whack, and chop up creepy monsters."

From the trailer, it definitely seems to be set up to provide some creepiness, with blood splattered stones and fog-shrouded statues. Check it out below:

During Early Access, players will explore the first of three areas, the plague-ridden and ominously named swamp town of Cruxfirth. Multiple updates should follow by the end of the year, adding new areas and additional content, including "hidden secrets." Split-screen co-op and online multiplayer for up to four players are planned for further down the road, but until then, the game can be played as a solo quest, laying waste to the horrors of Eldritch.

Developer Slipgate Ironworks has worked on "Wrath" before: developer Slipgate Ironworks previously worked on "Wrath: Aeon of Ruin," indicating a fondness for older first-person games. In his preview, Rick Lane described the game as "the Quake successor we never really got," and now with Graven we get "something Hexen 3-like."

Early Access on Steam, Epic, and GOG will offer 10% off Graven for the first week, with a full launch for PC and consoles in 2022.
