Obsidian Slows Pace of Grounded Updates, Prioritizes More "Meaningful" Releases

Nearly a year has passed since the Early Access release of Obsidian's Honey I Shrunk the Kids-style survival game Grounded. However, in an update posted today, the studio said that it has found it difficult to keep up that pace and will now move to larger but less frequent updates.

"It's been almost a year since the Game Preview/Early Access launch, and we still have a lot of work to do. Some of these big features are time-consuming, and with a small team it's difficult to release content every month while balancing the larger tasks required to complete the game."

"We are looking at doing larger, somewhat less frequent updates in the future, which will allow us to make our updates more meaningful with more and better content. Our goal is to find the right balance between keeping the game fresh with new stuff and giving the team enough time to create quality features.

This change means that the planned May update will not be released: instead, developers will continue to work on the 0.10.0 update, targeted for the end of June. This update will be the largest of Grounded's updates and will include more curved walls, roof variations, new building pieces including columns, the ability to flip some building pieces, giant food changes, improved photo mode, and more. In addition, something more impactful is coming: the Obsidian described this as "a small preview of what's coming in June" and said it "doesn't want to spoil the big one."

"Your feedback in this process is always important to us as we move forward on the road to launch 1.0, to figure out a good release flow," Obsidian said. If you would like to contribute to this conversation, you can do so on the Grounded Discord server.
