Sierra Entertainment's original creators may create something new

On Saturday, YouTuber "Space Quest Historian" shared information that Ken Williams and Roberta Williams, founders of Sierra Entertainment, are creating a new game. The news first came to him in dubious circumstances, via a Twitter DM from Marcus Mella, the third developer on the project. He seemed skeptical, but according to ScreenRant, Ken Williams later confirmed the story himself in response to the video.

The game is still only "scratch graphics" and not ready for an official announcement, but a friend of Williams allegedly shared a "pre-emptive FAQ" on his behalf on Facebook.

For those expecting a revived Sierra, Williams is "not at all sure" if this is the beginning of a new company; according to the FAQ, he is "happily retired" and more excited about making games than building a company.

Sierra Entertainment was originally founded in 1979 as On-Line Systems (then Sierra On-Line) and is best known for its King's Quest and Gabriel Knight series. Sierra is also best known as the publisher of Half-Life, which created the Valve of today. The Williamses left the company by 1997, although the brand still exists under Activision to republish some of its older games after a series of acquisitions and mergers.

Traditional new releases like "Backbone" and "Lacuna" were released this year, while popular titles like "Wadjet Eye" have been available for over a decade. Nevertheless, fans of the most traditional adventure games can only rejoice at the possibility of an original designer returning to the field.

The goal is a November release ("but that's probably not realistic"), for Mac and Windows.
