Alienware's X Series May Increase the Value of 4K Gaming Laptops

The Alienware X series of gaming laptops is here, and Dell is pulling out all the stops to deliver superior performance at up to 4K resolution. With the latest UHD panels and high-end GeForce cards, 4K gaming may now actually make sense on laptops. The gaming PC stalwarts promise "some industry-first innovations" with these new designs, which will be available in mobile versions of Nvidia's GeForce RTX 3060, RTX 3070, and RTX 3080 GPUs.

The lineup includes the company's thinnest 17.3-inch Dell Alienware x17 and the x15, crowned as the thinnest Alienware gaming laptop to date. x15, for example, measures just 16.3 mm at 165 Hz and a 1080p panel ( 0.642 inches) and 15.9mm (0.626 inches) on a 1080p, 360Hz or 1440p, 240Hz panel. [x17 is not far behind at 20.9mm (0.823") for a 1080p, 360Hz panel and 21.4mm (0.843") for a 4K, 120Hz monitor or 1440p, 165Hz panel.

Configuration options for the Dell Alienware X Series are 11th generation Intel Core i7 11800H or 11900HK CPUs and Nvidia RTX 30 series discrete GPUs. x15's RTX 3080 model has only the 8GB GDDR6 variant while the x17 has a full 16GB of VRAM. In other words, it's for professionals. [Configurations with Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 and RTX 3080 GPUs feature exclusive "Element 31" gallium-silicon matrix thermal interfaces. These are said to have "25% better thermal resistance than the previous generation."

These X-Series lappys also feature Alienware's new patent-pending Quad Fan and Smart Fan designs for better airflow and control, and Alienware's HyperEfficient Voltage Regulation technology to ensure longer gaming time.

These are gorgeous-looking laptops, very similar to the previous generation on the outside, but with significant upgrades on the inside, although we're still not sure about the appearance of AlienFX's customizable touchpad.

One has to admire Dell for managing to pack in even more RGB when it seemed there was nowhere else for RGB to be infested.

Alienware is optimistic that these new X Series gaming laptops will offer "ultimate performance for gaming and content creation." We won't know this until we get our hands on one and test it. Mainly, we are excited to see high refresh refresh rate UHD panels coming to the mobile market now that Nvidia's powerful 30-series cards can support frames.
