Sony Studios Boss Says He Doesn't Think Future PS5 Exclusive Titles Will Be Released on PC

In recent months, Sony has been focusing quite a bit on the PC; in early 2021, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan said that a "whole slate" of PlayStation games would be headed to the PC, followed by "Horizon Zero Dawn" and " Days Gone" have been successfully ported to the PC. It also appears that "Uncharted 4" is on its way, although no official confirmation has been received yet.

That doesn't mean Sony is ready to fully share all of its latest and greatest titles with the PC. In a recent Q&A session on the PlayStation Blog, PlayStation Studios boss Hermen Hulst made it clear that if you want to jump on a PlayStation game when it comes out, you he made it clear that you need to play it on a PlayStation console.

"Our plans for PC are still in the early stages. And "Horizon Zero Dawn" has been a huge success. I think it shows that there is a desire for gamers outside of the PlayStation ecosystem to experience the same great portfolio of games that PlayStation fans have enjoyed for years."

"However, we want to emphasize that PlayStation has been the best place to play PlayStation Studios titles since their launch. However, we value our PC gamers and will continue to look for the right time to launch each of our games. Bend Studio just launched Days Gone for PC on May 18, which means it's almost two years after the PS4 version was released."

Hulst said the purpose of releasing PlayStation games on PC is to expand the audience for the games beyond console owners. However, he added, "Releasing games on the PC is never at the expense of building an exciting lineup of great console games."

Exclusivity is one of PlayStation's greatest strengths, and it's no wonder Sony wants to maintain it to the fullest with PlayStation 5; given the response to "Horizon Zero Dawn" and the anticipation for "Uncharted 4," making PC owners wait The response to "Horizon Zero Dawn" and the anticipation for "Uncharted 4" suggest that making PC owners wait is not likely to dampen their enthusiasm. There is no legitimate reason for Sony to move to simultaneous console and PC releases.

Hulst made similar comments about the future development of the PlayStation 4 console, stating that Sony will continue to make games for both consoles "where it makes sense" but that "it is also very important to have something to show for PS5."

And that's fine: the PlayStation 5 may be the latest and greatest, but there are plenty of PlayStation 4 exclusives like "Bloodborne" and "The Last of Us" that I strongly prefer to see released on PC.
