Mass Effect 3" Designer Maps Easter Egg for Mars Rover Hidden for 10 Years

"Mass Effect 3" is full of giant, terrifying robots. But if you want to meet a more whimsical mechanical sidekick, one of the game's original developers has revealed how to activate a long-lost Mars rover Easter egg.

During the initial mission to Mars, Shepard might come across a 4×3 grid of solar panels next to the shuttle; Richard Boisvert, a former designer of Bioware, said on the game's subreddit that walking through a grid of specific panels would lead to his explained that an Easter egg, which to the best of his knowledge has not been discovered, is triggered.

"I planted an Easter egg on the 'ME3' Mars mission 10 years ago," Boisvert wrote, "but to the best of my knowledge, no one discovered it." At the beginning of the Mars mission, feel free to walk through the nearby solar panel array and look at it in the following way."

Surprisingly, according to the first comment from Redditor Tuskin38, upon completion, a chirping little rover emerges from the shadows, approaches Shepard, and gives the hardened space captain light now. Who said organic matter and synthetic matter can't get along?

Knowledge of how to summon Rover has been a mystery for a decade, but fans have long been aware of his existence. Last year, Marcus_Khaar used a free camera mod to crop the map in the game and discovered the hidden Rover. He particularly likes the fact that this robot is not a custom-built model, but a kit of various parts from other models.

It would be great to see this buried robot carried over intact to the Legendary Edition of the trilogy. But BioWare was also busy making other welcome little changes to the series, from the misaligned visor to Pluto's new look.
