Fortnite" Upgrades Graphics

Epic Games has announced a major graphical revamp of Fortnite as part of the 17.00 update that will kick off Season 7 on June 8.

Fortnite already looks great on PC. Its adaptable art style fits in with whatever the ever-increasing marketing crossover multiverse throws at it, and because it was created by the creators of the Unreal Engine, it runs fast with industry-standard rendering capabilities.

That said, there was room for upgrades: according to Epic, playing with the "Epic" graphics quality preset will improve storm and cloud effects in both Battle Royale and Creative modes. Smoke and liquid simulations will also be changed, adding better car explosions, better looking lakes and Slurp juice, and the update I personally have been waiting for the most, the inevitable flaming arrows and firefly pots for when you hit a house.

Epic says it will also add post-processing features to improve the quality of lens flares, blooms, and shadows.

So what are the costs in terms of hardware? Here are the new PC specs for the "Epic" graphics settings:

However, the recommended settings for Fortnite will not change:

Also, if you are working with low-level hardware, Fortnite's Medium, Low, and Performance rendering modes' Alpha settings do not change.

Here are the minimum specs to double check:

According to Epic, the "High" setting is equivalent to the pre-17.00 "Epic" setting when everything goes live.

Other updates include: recommended GPUs are Nvidia GTX 960, AMD R9 280, or equivalent DX11 GPU. Epic will also change the recommended OS to Windows 10 64-bit, but players using Windows 7 64-bit or Windows 8 64-bit can still run Fortnite without problems.

Fortnite Season 7 will be coming soon on June 8. When alien UFOs start abducting more players, every lighting effect will be needed.
