Sequel to Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night to be Released

Director Koji Igarashi's Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night took longer than expected to arrive, but the delay paid off: we called it a "picture-perfect homage" to Igarashi's past work in 77% of our reviews, and "a (that) very special feast for fans of the experience". Also, the 8-bit style spin-off "Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon," which ironically was released before "Ritual of the Night," scored an even higher 80%.

The sequel to "Curse of the Moon" was released last July, and the "Ritual of the Night" team has consistently added DLC to the larger game since its release. However, there was no sign of a sequel until this past May, when a quarterly financial report from 505 Games' parent company, Digital Bros, stated that Bloodstained was "in development for a second version."

The wording was ambiguous, and it was widely expected to mean that a full and proper sequel to Ritual of the Night was in the works, although a "second version" could mean a next-generation console version, a mobile version, or something for Stadia.

Today, the official "Bloodstained" Twitter account confirmed as much.

"Regarding recent reports, @505_Games and @ArtplayEN are in the very early planning stages for a #Bloodstained sequel. However, our current development resources are focused on completing the upcoming content for #Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. We have a lot planned for you."

Igarashi himself confirmed that for now the studio is "focused on the remaining content for Ritual of the Night."

At this point, there is no other information on what the new game will look like or when we will be able to see it, but at this early stage, the fact that it is happening is enough for many fans, who reacted to the news with what they call unbridled enthusiasm.
