Itch.io's Palestinian Aid Bundle includes hundreds of games for $5.

Indie digital store Itch.io has released a new bundle in support of Palestinian aid, offering over 1000 games, soundtracks, and books for a minimum price of $5. All funds raised through the sale of this bundle will be donated to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), which provides food aid and health services to the people of Gaza.

"Indie games are unique in that they tell a story that you won't find in AAA or other games. We pour our life experiences into our games and share a part of ourselves with the world," wrote Alanna Linayre, organizer of the bundle. Palestinian game developers are no different in this regard, but they face the challenge of limited access to basic services such as clean water, electricity, medical care, and food security." They live under Israeli authority that discriminates against and subjugates Palestinians to the point of persecution and apartheid simply because they are Palestinians. Furthermore, they develop games without all the resources that being in a western game development hub would provide."

In May, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) provided $38 million to support "urgent food, non-food, health, psychosocial, WASH, and emergency response capacity needs" arising from Israeli airstrikes that killed over 250 Palestinians, including 66 children in Gaza, according to the UN and local health authorities. A "Flash Appeal" for $38 million in funding has been issued to help According to the UN, nine hospitals and 19 clinics were damaged in Gaza, along with 1,026 homes and commercial buildings. According to the Times of Israel, 13 people, including two children, were killed in rocket attacks in Israel; a cease-fire was declared on May 21; the Israeli government has announced a cease-fire with the Israeli military, which has been in place since the end of the war."

The centerpiece of the bundle is Liyla and the Shadows of War, a 2016 narrative platformer about the 2014 Gaza War by Palestinian developer Rasheed Abueideh. Overall, however, the bundle covers a lot of ground: other standouts include "The Church in the Darkness," "The Stillness of the Wind," "Gnog," "Sokobond," "Pikuniku," "Minit," Anodyne," "Nuclear Throne," "Signs of the Sojourner," "VVVVVV" and "Super Win the Game. The bundle also includes soundtracks, development tools, digital comics and books, and asset packs.

Palestinian Aid's Indie Bundle costs a minimum of $5 and is available through June 11.
