Razer Aims to Save Seven Oceans with Smart Robot

A few months ago, Razer surprised us all by announcing a collaboration with The Nurturing Co to launch the eco toilet paper brand Bambooloo. This was the first installment of a "$50 million war chest to support and invest in environmental and sustainability startups."

Now, continuing the Razer Green Fund initiative, Razer will be announcing a new partnership in honor of World Oceans Day on June 8. This time, it is a partnership with ClearBot, an ocean waste cleanup company.

ClearBot is a Hong Kong-based startup that, with Razer's support, has gotten the boost it needs to start cleaning up the oceans; not only has Razer provided funding for the startup, but this is a true collaboration and soon Razer-branded ocean cleaning bots will be flying around the seven oceans, trying to make up for our scandals.

"Razer's top-notch engineers and designers volunteer their personal time and technical expertise to help turn prototypes into scalable, mass-marketable products... Leveraging Razer's extensive knowledge and manufacturing expertise, ClearBot will help us make our robots' design could evolve into something smarter and more efficient.

"The newly designed, fully automated robot is armed with state-of-the-art AI and machine learning capabilities and can detect marine plastics within two meters, even in rough seas. The robot can collect up to 250 kg of plastic in just one cycle while running on solar-powered energy."

We spoke with Patricia Liu, Razor's chief of staff, about the company's commitment to sustainability and why it has shifted to a lifestyle brand with a strong vision for a green future.

"It's nice to see Razer being recognized by the public as a lifestyle brand rather than one for gamers," Liu explains.

In other words, the move is about taking advantage of the position the company finds itself in to do good. Razer is in the right place to activate our community, which includes youth, millennials, and Generation Z. "We've been working with them for a long time. And by reaching out to them through its many initiatives, Razer is truly making a difference.

With the Sneki Snek campaign having saved nearly 300,000 trees (at time of writing) and the Seven Clean Seas initiative soon to launch in Kanagawa Prefecture to fund the collection of 1,337 kg of ocean plastic, the success of Razer 's green tide seems unstoppable.
