Intel Announces Driver Fix for Wireless Bug that Crashes Windows 10 PCs

A wireless driver update is available from Intel that may solve the blue screen issues that are occurring in Windows 10. However, at this time it must be obtained directly from Intel, and the update will likely eventually be made available via Windows Update, but has not yet been released.

Intel's June wireless driver package, discovered by Windows Latest, includes three updates that apply to several different Wi-Fi adapters, including Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) models and those based on the latest Wi-Fi 6E standard included. Here's what they are:

If you don't know which wireless adapter is in your PC, you can easily find out. Go to Device Manager (type Device Manager in the Windows search bar) and expand the tree of network adapters. If yours is one of the above, you should have the latest driver package from Intel.

That doesn't necessarily mean you need to jump to an update. If you are not experiencing problems, there is nothing wrong with waiting until Windows Update reflects the problem. However, if there is a problem, or if you want to do some preventive maintenance, then by all means run the update.

In addition to causing BSODs, other issues mentioned in the release notes (PDF) include random loss of network connectivity with certain adapters and device manager indicating that the wireless adapter is not working properly when performing a large file transfer include.

The easiest way to ensure that you get the proper updates is to install Intel's Driver and Support Assistant tool and open the Update Assistant from the system tray. This will check to see if there is an update for the particular wireless adapter and will give you the option to download and install any available updates.

Note that you will need to restart your PC. I was prompted to reboot after installing the tool and again after applying the Wi-Fi 6E adapter driver update.
