General
Battlefield 2042" will be available on Steam and the Epic Games Store.

Last year, EA brought every Battlefield that skipped Steam to the platform: Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4, Battlefield Hardline, Battlefield 1, and Battlefield 5. This October, the just announced "Battlefield 2042" will join them. (See trailer and game details here.)

Don't be surprised by this news: both EA and Microsoft have recently resumed releasing games on Steam, so of course the new "Battlefield" will be released on Steam. It's been a while since I've booted up a game, so I stopped for a moment: yes, it was there before Origin.

I guess you could say that Battlefield 2042 will be released on Steam. You can buy it and launch it on Steam, but when you launch an EA game from another client, a mini-Origin client pops up and appears in the taskbar; for Ubisoft games, it launches Ubisoft Connect, which was known as Uplay; for Rockstar games, it launches Ubisoft Connect, which was known as Uplay, For Rockstar games, you have to log in with your Rockstar account. This means that players who purchased these games from different stores can play them together, since they are signed in to not only Steam, but also the EA, Ubisoft and Rockstar multiplayer networks.

On that note, "Battlefield 2042" will also be released on the Epic Games Store; EA's "Star Wars Squadrons" and "Star Wars Jedi:" both were released on the Epic Games Store, so there is precedent. Also, if "Battlefield 2042" is released on Steam, and both versions will run Origin for matchmaking and friends, then it is just another place to buy and download.

Of course, you can also purchase "Battlefield 2042" directly from Origin. In this case, I would get it: if you have a lot of other Battlefield games on Origin, you might as well buy them all together.

Below are the Steam, Epic Games Store, and Origin pages for Battlefield 2042.

Battlefield 2042 will be released on October 22; Battlefield 2042 will make major changes to Battlefield, doubling the number of players per match and eliminating single-player in favor of a multiplayer mode. You can read everything we know about Battlefield 2042 here.
