Phil Spencer: "We're the only platform that ships games simultaneously on PC, cloud, and console."

Xbox boss Phil Spencer slammed PlayStation's PC strategy at a media briefing earlier this week, accusing Sony of doing double-duty with exclusive software.

In recent years, Xbox has made a major shift toward treating the PC as a first-party platform. Most, if not all, first-party games appeared on the Windows 10 store at the same time as the console's release, and the Games For Windows Live scare is now a distant memory.

Without naming names, Spencer pointedly compared Xbox's current strategy to certain rivals: the PlayStation is slowly beginning to bring first-party games to the PC, starting with "Horizon Zero Dawn," which took three years to break away from its console exclusivity.

"We are starting to offer first-party games on the PC.

"We are the only platform that ships games simultaneously on PC, cloud, and console," Spencer boasted.

"Other companies release console games on PC years later, not only forcing people to buy the hardware first, but charging them again to play on PC.

"There is a huge growth opportunity on the PC. We've expanded to ship first-party games on both consoles and PCs at the same time. And last year we more than doubled our first-party retail game sales on PC. We are also one of the largest third-party publishers on Steam."

Sony has stated that it wants to bring more console exclusive titles to PC. The zombie road trip "Days Gone" was released earlier this year, and "Uncharted 4" is rumored to be coming eventually. However, there is no word on a port of "Bloodborne". Sorry.

Spencer is bullish about the future of Xbox on the PC, telling us to expect a "great set of titles" from both Xbox Games Studios and Bethesda over the next year. But he is also excited about cloud gaming in the PC space. With new hardware so hard to come by these days, this could be a really attractive option.

"Cloud gaming will bring great AAA games to the hundreds of millions of low-spec Windows PCs that have never been able to play the hit games that everyone sees.

The Xbox + Bethesda E3 Showcase kicks off this Sunday, June 13 at 10 am PDT/6 pm BST.
