General
Director Hideo Kojima is "rethinking the creative process" in light of Covid-19.

Hideo Kojima, creator of "Metal Gear Solid" and "Death Stranding," compared the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic to the 9/11 attacks in a brief interview with Geoff Keighley about the developer's creative process.

When Keighley interviewed Kojima during Summer Game Fest, Kojima discussed how the pandemic affected his approach to development. In the past, his games have often touched apathetically on cultural concerns, but his vision of an isolated society in Death Stranding was uncomfortably immediate."

"I was always thinking about what could happen in society five, ten, twenty years from now," he said. It was like predicting the future and adding the essence of entertainment." That's how I always made them."

"Especially with 'Death Stranding,' reality came too quickly."

In light of this, Kojima said he is thinking about how to adapt his creative process. While entertainment "has to be fun," he has always tried to make players learn something (whether he has succeeded in doing so is debatable). However, with the speed at which culture is moving, Kojima admits that he needs to shake up his process.

"I can't be specific. It's different from the past. It's not step by step; it's a drastic change, just like after 9/11. Entertainment can't afford to lag behind, so we have to adapt and come up with new ways of creating."

Kojima also introduced a trailer for Death Stranding: Director's Cut, which will be released on PlayStation 5. Presumably, we will eventually see this update on PC as well.
