'Five Nights at Freddy's' Creator 'Makes No Apologies' for Trump Support

Five Nights at Freddy's creator Scott Cawthon has made large donations to Republican political action committees and candidates, including Devin Nunes, Ben Carson, Mitch McConnell, Donald Trump Carson confirmed reports that he has made large donations to Republican political action committees and candidates, including Ben Carson, Mitch McConnell, and Donald Trump, and said he is prepared to "cancel" and retire if people think he is doing more harm than good to the Five Nights community.

Some of Cawthorne's public donation records were shared on Twitter on June 10 and can be found at opensecrets.org. With the exception of a $2,500 donation to Democrat Tulsi Gabbard, it is entirely Republican and includes the Winred PAC and the National Republican Senatorial Committee, along with numerous individual candidates. Reaction to the tweet was largely negative, especially among members of the LGBTQ+ community, which makes up a large portion of the Five Knights' fan base.

Cawthon acknowledged the disappointment in a message posted on Reddit earlier today, confirming that the donation report was accurate.

"To say the last few days have been surreal would be an understatement. We debated a great deal about how best to deal with this, including not dealing with it at all, but with so many people in the LGBT community in my beloved fanbase, that's not an option."

"I'd like to think that I've been above suspicion and above punishment in regards to how I treat people for the past seven years, but there I was, trending on Twitter for being homophobic, doxed, and threatened to come to my house. My wife is 6 weeks pregnant and last night she was terrified of what was being said online. She is already struggling with her pregnancy so seeing her scared really scared me. All because I exercised my rights and duties as an American citizen and voted for and supported the candidate I felt could best run this country for the good of all, and I will not apologize for that."

Corson said that the candidates he supported included "men, women, whites, blacks, Republicans, and Democrats," especially Kimberly Krasik ("I believed she really cared about the local African American community and wanted to lift them out of poverty") and defended his support for Tulsi Gabbard (who disagreed with her on specific policies, but felt that she "would have been a good and fair president").

He also commented on what is arguably the most controversial part of the report, his support for then-President Donald Trump.

"I felt he was the best person to promote a strong economy and confront America's many enemies abroad," he wrote."

He believed that even if there were candidates who said more good things directly to the LGBT community or made bigger promises, their stances on other issues would result in far more harm than good for those communities."

Cawthon insisted that he supports creators regardless of their background, and as a result, he said he has worked with "a very diverse group of people" over the course of his career. He said that will not change, but neither will his approach to other aspects of life.

"I am a Republican. I am a Christian. I am pro-life. I believe in God. I also believe in equality and science and common sense." All of those things can come together, no matter what some people say. That is not an apology or a promise of change.

"If they cancel, they cancel. I am not in it for the money anymore, I am in it for the fun. If people think I'm doing more harm than good now, then maybe I should cancel and retire. I accept that. I have had a fulfilling career. Besides, most things that people can take from you were never worth much to begin with. 0]

While the response on Twitter has been largely negative, the reaction to Cawthon's post on Reddit has been very different. Many posters have expressed appreciation for the Five Knights game and Cawthon's responsiveness to fans, and while some have expressed disappointment, there seems to be little or no interest in "canceling" him. Also, Minecraft creator Marcus "Notch" Persson was banned from his creation (after selling it to Microsoft for $2.5 billion) due to multiple posts that were widely criticized on social media, and one hopes Cawthon does not suffer a similar fate I hope Cawthon does not suffer a similar fate.

"It's like Minecraft without Notch," one wrote of Cawthon's possible dismissal.

"It's a huge hole in the community that to this day cannot be filled.

Five Nights at Freddy's' newest release, Security Breach, is currently slated for release in late 2021.
