Razer introduces a powerful 130W GaN charger.

Along with the announcement of the new Blade 14 laptop, Raptor 27 165Hz screen, BlackShark V2 Pro Six Siege, and the colorful Opus X headset, Razer also announced a new charger.

Yes, a power brick.

Priced at $180 (£180), it's not the cheapest way to power your peripherals, but it does come with that swirly snake motif.

To be fair to Razer, this power brick highlights a recent shift in the industry, and that is the use of gallium nitride in chargers.

GaN chargers can provide high power output in this regard as well, and this snake-like unit is capable of 130W output, which is two USB Type-C ports and two USB Type-A ports combined.

That should be enough to charge a smartphone, tablet, or laptop, depending on how much power each unit actually consumes; the maximum output of the USB Type-C connector will undoubtedly be 100W, making room for smartphones and headphones It should be able to charge some laptops, such as the Razer Blade 14, while still making room for smartphones and headphones.

Price aside, it's all good: a quick look around Amazon shows a 130W GaN charger from Wotobeus for $76 (not a recommendation, just an observation). It has no snake motif, three USB Type-C ports and one Type-A port, but the output is the same.

It is worth noting that the USB Implementors Forum is considering updating the USB specification to support higher wattages, up to 240W. It will be a while before that is implemented in devices, but it is enough to dissuade us from investing a lot of money in charging right now.
