Razer upgrades Raptor 27 gaming monitor to 165Hz

At the 2021 E3 show, Razer unveiled the all-new Raptor 27-inch gaming monitor, a follow-up to the sleek gaming monitors of a few years ago.

The new monitor is nearly identical to its predecessor, but with one notable improvement. The new Raptor supports 165Hz, a step up from the previous 144Hz. Whether this is the result of an entirely new panel or a moderate overclocking out of the box is unclear, but since the rest of the specs are nearly identical, I would assume the latter.

That said, Razer is currently touting the Raptor as the world's first THX certified product. This means that Razer has conducted a massive 400 tests to ensure that this panel meets certain image quality standards.

Since there are no major changes in specifications between the old and new Raptor, it is not known if there were any major changes to get THX certification. Still, it is clear that at least this monitor is up to a good standard.

I used an older Raptor model a while back and liked this stand the best. It has a sleek design, comes with a rear channel for cables and a foldable arm. And of course, it's RGB. It takes up more valuable desk space than a regular gaming monitor stand, but for a 1337 gamer setup, it's unavoidable.

Since this stand is available for the new Raptor 27, we recommend checking the refresh rate before checking the bill and purchasing the latest version. On the other hand, 144 Hz would also be quite wonderful if the older model were a bit cheaper.

Before that, there is the new Razer VESA mounting adapter. To each his own; it's $100 (£100/€100).

Both will be available early Q3 2021.
