Mad Catz Creates Ambidextrous Mouse "Inspired by Spaceships and Batmobiles"

Not many gaming mice have been inspired by Bruce Wayne's Batmobile. That is Mad Catz's B.A.T. 6+, an ambidextrous rodent with some interesting features and odd marketing.

"The B.A.T. 6+'s design cues are inspired by spaceships, hypercars, and the Batmobile. The side vent design was derived from the fastest hypercars. This design prevents gamers' hands from overheating during prolonged play," Mad Catz explains.

"Don't you hate it when your hands overheat and shut down while gaming?" I've never experienced it myself, but it would be quite frustrating if I did. Let's thank Zeus for coming up with a mouse that prevents that from happening.

The vents on this mouse aren't the only thing inspired by spaceships and the Batmobile.

"The changeable side skirts reflect the aggressiveness of the Starfighter's wings and make the controls more agile. The palm rests also resemble the roof of the Batmobile. Every line has been carefully thought out, giving the entire mouse a raging aesthetic and power," says Mad Catz.

Frankly, I had never considered whether the peripherals offered "raging aesthetics and power." Mouse and keyboard makers take note.

Foolish marketing aside, the B.A.T. 6+ actually looks promising. It also passed under my radar when it was first announced at CES earlier this year and finally came to my attention thanks to TechPowerUp (Mad Catz also recently released a YouTube video highlighting the mouse's features).

In short, it is a customizable gaming mouse with an adjustable palm rest, interchangeable backplate and side skirts to accommodate different grip styles and hand sizes, RGB lighting, and a high-speed sensor.

Specifically, the B.A.T. 6+ features a Pixart PMW 3389 optical sensor with 16,000 DPI sensitivity, 50G acceleration, and 2,000Hz (0.5ms) polling rate.

It also boasts 10 programmable buttons, with the main clicker located on a Dakota switch capable of 60 million presses. Up to five profiles can be configured and stored in the mouse's onboard memory, eliminating the need to customize settings when moving from one PC to the next.

The B.A.T. 6+ should have shipped by now, but we have not found any retailers that actually sell them. This is unfortunate, as the market needs more high-performance gaming mice that are suitable for both left- and right-handed gamers. Therefore, we contacted Mad Catz for information on pricing and availability.
