The demons in this doom dating game prefer to kiss rather than kill.

The snarling Space Marines aren't the only unfortunate zombie affliction these days. After all, tomorrow is the Icon Festival of Sin and you don't even have a date! Will you be able to seduce the devil of your dreams, or will you be bullied by cyberdemons and Hellknight goons?

David Cooper's Doomed Love, released last week and introduced to us by Waypoint, is a fascinating visual novel set in the blood-soaked underworld of Doom. The Doom Guy is nowhere to be seen, and you'll be left scrambling to win the unconquerable hearts of four utterly lovable demons.

Cooper's hell-goers are not the intense beasts of Doom Eternal, but goofy, insecure, and lovable. In a particularly wonderful early dialogue, your character reassures a stressed cacodemon, "There are already so many demons out there, you don't even need to bring your own personal demon."

Nor can Doomed Love's art be cute. The snarling sprites are transformed into soft, watercolor-like companions, and a MIDI soundtrack reworked the original Doom's choppy audio into a pleasant piano melody.

Four endings are provided (perhaps one for each date, plus a special fifth ending), and Cooper promises a wholesome demon dating experience with no gore or violence throughout. Doomed Love is free on Itch. Playable.
