CDPR continues to tinker with the edges of cyberpunk's doomed world

The latest patch for Cyberpunk 2077, version 1.23, has arrived on PCs. The usual hilarious patch notes, such as "fixed an issue that allowed Jackie to walk through glass," "fixed an issue where after killing an NPC and stealing his car, his corpse would sometimes get stuck in the car," or the classic "fixed an issue where dropping an NPC corpse would cause severe destruction," are Properly.

I miss the grenade corpses.

The only change that seems to make any real difference to the moment-to-moment experience (unless, of course, you hit a fatal quest bug) is an optimization that "reduces instances of the same looking NPC spawning in the same area, improving streaming." [Adam KiciƄski, president and co-CEO of CDPR, also recently reiterated CDPR's commitment to cyberpunk. While we have already seen significant improvements, a large part of the team continues to work to ensure that Cyberpunk provides even better entertainment for gamers"

.

However, how realistic it is to expect "better entertainment" from Cyberpunk 2077 is like the elephant in the room. While each patch is accompanied by an enormous amount of caveats and fixes an absolute number of bugs and performance issues, players have been seen in vain in each announcement and on the CDPR forums asking for more substantive changes.

All of this seems a bit of a pipe dream at this point, and it is highly doubtful that "Cyberpunk 2077" will be a radically different experience than it is now; the PC version has its share of problems, but nothing compared to the absolute technical fiasco that occurred with the console version (CDPR himself made fun of the game's many bugs before its release).

It seems to me that Cyberpunk 2077 still has the problem of expectations. Somehow, CDPR can still "fix" it, and maybe all of the hope and hype for so long will finally prove to be worth it. The studio certainly has the resources to make a film like "No Man's Sky". The question is whether it would be better for all of us if CDPR fixed all the bugs and moved on.
