This new free-to-play Fairy Tale card game was designed by a former magic professional.

Storybook Brawl, a card game autobattler, was released yesterday in Early Access on Steam. Players will have the opportunity to draft their "favorite characters from stories and mythology," including the trademark neutral Snow Wight and Princess Peep and her battle-hardened sheep. Each fairy tale character has unique abilities.

With its theme and big, bright UI, Storybook Brawl appears to be an easy game to learn but difficult to master. The goal was to create a game that anyone could get into and enjoy," says designer Matt Place, who was a Magic Pro Tour champion before turning his hand to game design. Fairy Tail gives you a huge amount of options to explore characters with different personalities and attributes."

The studio Good Luck Games is led by three former professional card game players who then transitioned into game design, working on projects such as Hearthstone and Elder Scrolls: Then Hearthstone and Elder Scrolls: Legends, and other projects before joining the development of Storybook Brawl. It is interesting that after playing at such a high level, they made the clear choice to create such an accessible game; most of the reviewers on Steam are already fans of the genre. (At the time of this writing, there are 33 reviews for Storybook Brawl, with an average of "positive.")

"Storybook Brawl" is scheduled for Early Access until "late 2021 or early 2022. While many of the core systems and final game objects have already been implemented (including "1 Ultra Cute Puff Puff"), players can expect additional features such as group lobbies, friend chat, and fully voiced characters.

Storybook Brawl is free to play and can be downloaded from Steam.
