Due to Ubisoft's server shutdown, Might & Magic X players were unable to get the DLC they had purchased.

Update: When reached for comment, a spokesperson for Ubisoft said, "We are aware of the reported issue and our internal team is investigating."

Original story: Numerous players of the 2014 RPG "Might & Magic X Legacy" have reported that parts of the game's only DLC, "Falcon & Unicorn," are no longer accessible due to a server shutdown to verify DLC ownership. After the server shutdown on June 1, players who own the DLC reported that not only could they not access areas of the DLC, but that they could not play the game after Act I if the DLC was installed.

The Falcon & The Unicorn DLC is still available for $6.99, at least on Steam.

There have been a number of reports on Steam's forums and Might & Magic's Reddit board from users who have been unable to access the game properly. Users who purchased the deluxe version, which includes several in-game items, have also reported that they are unable to access them.

Enterprising users on Reddit have already found a workaround to modify the script, but it requires editing the game files to bypass the checks and add specific triggers. I doubt this is legal in some areas, but most importantly, it forces the DLC area to be added to the game: you can't go there as part of the storyline under normal circumstances. This is the lowest level of hack.

Ubisoft acquired the Might & Magic brand in 2003 after the demise of 3DO; Might & Magic X - Legacy, released in 2014, was a return to the series after more than a decade and a seemingly unrelated The game was promoted as a triumphant return to the series after the release of the game.
