Tencent Acquires Majority Stake in Spec Ops: The Line Studios
Tencent will now own a majority stake in Yager, the Berlin-based studio best known for [Spec Ops: The Line]. [Yager CEO Timo Ulmann said, "Not only will we have access to Tencent's network and resources, but we will also be able to leverage Tencent's vast industry know-how, which will greatly expand the scope of our business."

Now the German site Games Wirtschaft has revealed that Tencent has acquired a majority stake, and Ullmann says the initial cash infusion was intended to test the waters between the two companies.

Jaeger has been largely invisible since 2012's Spec Ops: The Line. While the game did well critically, it did not do well financially for the studio. The space shooter Dreadnought was released in 2018, but the company laid off a third of its staff after its release. In recent years, the company has been working on a battle royale, "The Cycle," which tries to shake things up by throwing quests into chaos, but it hasn't made much news in the past two years. according to Games Wirtschaft, "The Cycle" is another unannounced game and is still in development, according to Games Wirtschaft.

This is yet another investment for Tencent, which seems to be slowly devouring every corner of the gaming industry. Tencent currently has over 300 investments in technology and entertainment, with some pretty big names in its portfolio. In addition to owning Riot Games, Tencent has also invested heavily in Epic Games, the smaller Ubisoft and Activision Blizzard.
