Halo: The Master Chief Collection" may one day support up to 60 players.

Some developers want to raise the limit of 16 players in "Halo: The Master Chief Collection" to 40 or 60.

In an Xbox stream (clip below by YouTuber Mint Blitz), 343 producer Sean Swidersky said the team is "looking into increasing the number of players beyond 16" in the throwback collection.

"Halo is epic, and if we can add more people than 16, if we can add 40, 60, that would be great," Swidersky said.

He noted that while implementing something like this would not be too difficult in itself, the performance impact would be more of a problem, especially on the older consoles still supported by MCC. However, there is also the larger issue of where to place so many players, which Mr. Swiderski did not mention.

With the exception of Reach's Forge World, Halo's map is quite small. Sand Trap is manageable for 16 people. Sixty angry Spartans on the same map would be uncontrollable chaos. However, support for 60 players would be a boon to the game's modding community and would provide an incentive for more maps of the massive Battlefield scale, such as Extinction (that is, if MCC would stop destroying maps with every major update).

Halo Infinite will probably not have a battle royale. However, if 343 decides to raise the player cap for MCC, modders may offer a battle royale instead.
