You can hack Nvidia's DLSS 2.2 into Cyberpunk 2077 today!

Recently, "Rainbow Six Siege" was updated to run on DLSS 2.2, the latest version of Nvidia's deep learning supersampling technology. Interestingly, it appears that developers don't necessarily have to wait to add the latest files to the game. This is because the "database" files can be taken from "Rainbow Six Siege" and used in other DLSS-compatible games.

That way, we should be able to take advantage of the apparently limited benefits of DLSS 2.2 without having to wait for a pesky update. This is at least in theory; in practice it would be hard to find a difference.

Using an RTX 2080 Super at 4K on Cyberpunk 2077, I tried the mod with balanced DLSS settings and did not notice any performance gains or obvious visual enhancements.

Running the same 2-minute section three times with the existing DLSS 2.1 file and again with the new DLSS 2.2 file showed an average difference of 1 fps between the two, with a minimum of 2 fps, a slight improvement. Considering that part of the fun of Cyberpunk 2077 is the possibility of random elements and events occurring during play, this 1-2 fps basically means nothing.

Even Nvidia admits that they do not have high hopes for the update to DLSS 2.2; when we spoke to Henry C. Lynn, product manager for DLSS, he had this to say: [This generalized network has improved over time I think it's a testament to the fact that this generalized network is improving over time. This generalized network has improved over time and continues to get more information and produce better results.

"What is new in this version is basically the improvement in image quality. There is nothing of note. In terms of working with developers, everyone has their own timing for introducing networking into their games, and it just so happens that 'Rainbow Six' is now on 2.2."

Perhaps it would be better to wait for the next official patch for Cyberpunk 2077 than to put in the code for Siege. But don't necessarily hold your breath.
