Microsoft's Cyberpunk 2077 special refund policy ends in July.

Microsoft's Cyberpunk 2077 special refund policy ends in July.

Microsoft did not react as strongly as Sony to the "Cyberpunk 2077" console version fiasco, but it took the unusual step of offering a full refund, no questions asked, "until further notice" to anyone who purchased the game on its online store. This seems to me to be a very fair compromise approach to dealing with a fundamentally, if not inexcusably, flawed game to some people.

Six months after adopting this policy, Microsoft issued a "further notice" promising that the policy would soon end; as of July 6, Cyberpunk 2077 will revert to "our standard digital game refund policy" for all existing and new purchases.

This change makes it much more difficult to claim a refund for Cyberpunk 2077; unlike Steam, GOG, and Epic, which offer "no questions asked" refunds, Microsoft's refund policy states that "all sales of digital gaming products are considered final and .

"When requesting a refund for these products, we will consider a variety of factors, including time since purchase date, time since release, and product use, depending on the type of purchase or content to determine refund eligibility," the policy states.

This means that refunds for Cyberpunk 2077 will be very difficult to obtain after the July 6 deadline. The state of the game was an unpleasant surprise when it was released last year, but it is now well known, and although it has been patched numerous times since its release, it is still in a rough state: the 1.2 update released in April fixed many things, but Cyberpunk is "far from finished." state, and when Sony returned Cyberpunk 2077 to the PlayStation Store last week, it issued a warning that "users will continue to experience performance issues" on PlayStation 4.

If you are seeking a refund for Cyberpunk 2077 (or any other game purchased from the Microsoft Store) after July 6, you can do so at support.xbox.com.
