CCP wants to make the galaxy of EVE Online a little less gray.

EVE Online's test server is currently attempting a "major update" to the interstellar MMO's visuals.

Since yesterday, the Singularity test server has been making changes to the coloring of EVE's skies, stations, and planetoids; in a blog post, CCP explained that the game's colors have become "brighter and deeper," gradients have been smoothed, lighting and shaders have been adjusted, and the dullness of New Eden has been slightly eliminated, he explained.

"These changes are part of our ongoing commitment to improve the foundation of EVE and prepare the game for a third decade of prosperity. By removing the gray coloring, these upgrades bring New Eden to life like never before."

However, don't expect a dramatic overhaul. This before-and-after shot may be the most visible example of CCP's comparison shots, but it is extremely subtle.

A little more contrast and a little brighter, sure. However, the pitch black areas of the universe seem to be missing, and the planets appear to be a bit over-baked. Nevertheless, this is all a work in progress, and CCP is soliciting feedback from players all over the galaxy to adjust these values.
