Respawn Promises to Crack Down on Apex Legends Cheaters

Apex Legends is a really good battle royale, but like many popular online games, it has its own problems with cheaters; take a peek at the Apex subreddit and you'll find various complaints about players breaking rules instead of fair competition. The game has also been plagued by DDoS issues in recent months. Thankfully, Respawn said on Twitter today that it is "pursuing several options to crack down on cheating."

These options include:

"Playing against cheaters sucks," Respawn tweeted." We will ship the above changes and keep you updated as we pursue new ones."

As updates go, there's really not much to see here, especially when compared to the detailed anti-cheat updates and reports for games like "Call of Duty: Warzone" and "Rainbow Six Siege". But that is not a reflection of Respawn's lack of aggressiveness in combating cheaters: in March, more than 700 Apex High Ranks, including more than 180 Diamond and Predator ranks, the top two ranks in competitive play in Apex Legends players, and in May warned that players who exploit the "ghost lock" bug would be subject to banning.

Apex's recent rise in popularity (thanks in part to a really fun season 9) has made it an ever bigger target for cheaters looking for easy wins, and Respawn needs to step up its efforts to keep up.
