Seattle got very hot today.

The National Weather Service warned of "unprecedented heat" in Northwest Washington today, with temperatures expected to reach 113 degrees Fahrenheit (45 degrees Celsius). Seattle-based Bungy had to shut down operations early as a result.

James Haywood, Bungie's tools engineer, said on Twitter. "Bungie is shutting everything down due to the heat." That's it for today's work."

Seattle is not known for being hot, with average June temperatures over the past decade averaging a high of 72F (22C) and a low of 54F (12C), very mild for summer. According to the Washington Post, Seattle recorded "at least" 107F today. [Amazon has turned its headquarters in downtown Seattle into a "public cooling center," along with many other locations designated by the City of Seattle. These public cooling centers, which are fully air-conditioned, are necessary in Seattle, where air-conditioning is usually not needed due to the lack of hot days.

Temperatures are expected to drop tomorrow, with a high of 89 - still above normal, but hopefully that will keep the roads from melting.
