Todd Howard has been trying to make an Indiana Jones game since 2009.

Early in the new year, Bethesda made a surprise announcement: Machine Games, the company behind the recent "Wolfenstein" series, is making a new adventure based on Indiana Jones. However, while this news was somewhat sudden, it seems that Todd Howard has been wanting to make an Indiana Jones game for some time.

When asked by The Telegraph for an update on the game, Howard simply said he was "very excited" about the game's progress. He has been trying to make this game for over a decade.

"I think it was 2009 when I originally pitched it to Lucas. He said, "I think Machine Games is a phenomenal developer and storyteller at what they do. When we started talking to them, it just felt so right. And when we got the opportunity to tell this story to Lucas and Disney, they were very excited.

"I really like Indiana Jones, but I never thought I'd have the opportunity to make a game. And I'm sure we'll hear more about it in the future. But the team at Machine Games is the best team in the world to make this game a success, and they are doing a phenomenal job."

Howard also gave a small update on The Elder Scrolls 6, which has been largely silent since Bethesda announced it along with Starfield in 2018. Since the studio's universe-spanning epic was properly unveiled at this year's E3, Howard only mentioned that TES 6 is being made with the same engine.

"The Creation Engine 2 (Starfield's new technology) is kind of built for both. It's like a new technology platform. The bulk of our development is now done at Starfield, but the projects are sort of intertwined because everyone is working on everything."

Eagle-eyed fans were convinced that the Starfield trailer says more than Bethesda tells us. Whether true or not, this speculation is consistent with existing rumors that the game will take place in Hammerfell or High Rock, or both.
