Nvidia may provide a better looking DLSS configuration in a future update.

Nvidia may be planning to release an ultra-quality mode for its popular upscaling technology, DLSS.

DLSS (Deep Learning Supersampling) currently offers four different presets, each offering a different blend of image quality and performance:

Possible new presets:

DLSS in Unreal Engine 5 A new Ultra Quality preset that appeared in the documentation and was discovered by u/Reinhardovich on Reddit (via Videocardz) may offer a more fidelity-focused option for the hawkish gamer.

Since DLSS uses different resolutions to increase frame rates over native resolution, one can assume that Ultra Quality will use a resolution closer to native than any of the existing DLSS presets.

DLSS is already quite capable today, and there is little need to sacrifice image clarity for improved performance. However, the Ultra Quality preset would provide a bit more granularity for those times when you need just a little help in terms of performance. So I for one am looking forward to seeing this technology in the next version.

Which version of DLSS is available depends on both Nvidia's development and the game in question. Most DLSS games have switched to the much improved DLSS 2.0 version, and some, like Rainbow Six Siege and Lego Builder's Journey, are at version 2.1 or even version 2.2.6.

DLSS Ultra Quality is reportedly likely to appear in version 2.2.9, which is currently included in the DLSS Unreal Engine 5 plug-in. However, since this engine is still an early access version, it is possible that another game will offer version 2.2.9 before anything comes out of Epic's engine.

If you haven't tried DLSS yet and you have an RTX-branded graphics card, give it a try; here's why DLSS 2.0 is almost always worth turning on.
