Hunt: Showdown's Junky Hits Register Better, Says Crytek

According to Crytek, fixing the hit registration instability in Hunt: Showdown has resulted in a "major improvement."

The underrated battle royale has long suffered from frustrating hit registration, especially in melee combat, and there have been numerous posts on Reddit and Steam over the years pointing out that gunfire is not recognized when the blood splatter animation indicating a hit is played have been received.

Crytek originally addressed the game's problems with hit registration in a fairly technical and lengthy blog post in February 2019. In it, they detailed how hit registration works, basically how it works by having the server predict shooter-leaning shots. However, thanks to issues such as desynchronization and latency, it did not always work that way, and Crytek said that it has begun collecting data to identify the problem and is looking at ways to improve its hit verification system, and that it is "sufficiently We will be lenient and strict enough to make sure the game is not abused."

Not much was said after that, but in early 2021 there was a flood of players reporting hit registration issues; Crytek said it had noticed a "spike in hit registration issues" and issued a blog post providing the first major update on the issue in over two years. The company has been working on the issue for more than two years. Apparently, the crux of the problem stems from the fact that the game assumes that the person who fired the shots is dead.

"We have found that many disables occur because the server perceives that the player whose shot was disabled is already dead. "Based on this, we were able to isolate this particular issue and greatly improve this situation."

According to Crytek, last month's update, which introduced several fixes, "greatly improved the hit registration issue" and "reduced the number of fair shots being disabled, resulting in fairer and more accurate Thanks to "fairer hit exchanges," quilt trades have increased, Crytek said it continues to find and fix hit registration issues elsewhere, and urged players to "be patient.

Several players said they have noticed an increase in kill trades since the patch, with user Jenn_FTW saying, "Definitely noticed an increase in trades recently. It's nice to have an explanation." He said. Another reddit user said that since the patch, there have been more kill trades than when he first played the game.

Of course, not everyone is convinced. A reddit post from a few days ago talks about an increase in kill trades, but notes that the hits are still not registering as expected; Crytek's data is disputed, and some even say the problem has gotten worse since the patch.

Despite the controversy, Crytek's data shows improvement. This is good news for a game that relies heavily on accurate aiming and instant death from headshots. The new map is expected to be available this month, and will be the first addition since the game's launch in 2018.
