Bungie is hiring someone to tackle the cheater problem in Destiny 2.

Bungie is looking for a data scientist to work on the development of an anti-cheat system for Destiny 2. The job posting was discovered by DestinyNews+ on Twitter, and DestinyNews+ shared the link along with a screenshot of the job posting.

"As a Data Engineer (Anti-Cheat) at Bungie, you will design and develop data systems to help our security team detect and combat cheaters. You will partner with our data and analytics team to develop pipelines and processes to collect gameplay and anti-cheat data."

"You will then develop tools and models to turn raw data into actionable insights; you will work daily with our code security, tools, analytics, and services experts to make Destiny a safer place for gamers.

All very corporate descriptions, but the gist of the job is to develop systems to collect data, analyze that data, and develop solutions to diagnosed problems. bungie is not the first company to recruit data scientists recently to work on anti-cheating As the team grows, the company hopes to improve the way it identifies and addresses problem players.

Destiny 2 has faced a bit of a cheating problem of late, made worse by the game's move from Battle.net to Steam. The first few months of 2020 saw a 50% increase in cheating incidents, and Trials of Osiris' PvP mode has become a cheater remain notorious among the community as a hotbed of cheaters.

Bungie is taking steps, both legally and behind the scenes, to address the issue. Just this week, the studio made the decision to ban a Destiny 2 YouTuber; BakenGangsta protested a bit too much about the ban hammer, inviting a wonderfully measured rebuke from the game's community management.
