You won't see "Dragon Age 4" or the new "Mass Effect" on EA Play Live this month.

EA released a gameplay trailer for "Battlefield 2042" at E3, but otherwise skipped the big show, holding off on announcements until EA Play Live later this month. Two of the games that will not be announced are: the new "Dragon Age 4" and "Mass Effect.

In a tweet today, BioWare said it will "not be announcing anything" at this year's EA Play Live. The RPG studio cited today's "Star Wars: The Old Republic" livestream as the latest news it could share, but otherwise said it is "hard at work" on the next installments of "Dragon Age" and "Mass Effect."

We've known about the next Dragon Age (which we're calling Dragon Age 4 for brevity) for a while, but it's likely still more than two years away. So far all we've seen is teases and concept art featuring the fan-favorite mage Solas in the lead role.

The new, more recently announced "Mass Effect" is in a similar spot. The teaser features the popular blue alien, Liara, and a veteran of the series is back and involved in development. It is in early development, though, and looks like it will be playable around the time "The Elder Scrolls 6" is released.

Perhaps it's not surprising that BioWare is keeping its head down, given that it has two games in development. The spirited "Mass Effect: Andromeda" failed to usher in a new era in the world of sci-fi RPGs, and "Anthem" failed to bring BioWare into the live-service FPS scene. The next two films are remasters of the first three, and the next two films feature already beloved characters.

EA Play Live will be streaming on July 22, with the pre-show beginning at 10 a.m. Pacific Standard Time; we'll learn about the mysterious Battlefield 2042 mode DICE LA is working on, and perhaps a new 128-player EA will also talk about sports games and studios like Respawn and Motive.
