Elite Dangerous Odyssey planetary side missions can now be shared with friends.

Bounty hunters are always better off with their buddies: a major update to Odyssey allows them to share loot from planetary missions with other crew members.

With Odyssey's Update 5, land missions are now just like space missions, allowing you to share missions with your buddies. All items and goals count in the same pool and everyone gets the same rewards. Target items are handled by the team leader upon departure, and items held by teammates who die during the mission can be retrieved.

The inability to rob together in this manner at launch is a surprising loophole, and fixing it would make the adventure on the ground a more attractive proposition. However, it would also make it a little easier to just get a group of friends to fly around Odyssey in the first place.

Update 5 includes a staggering number of bug fixes, so much so that Steam has split the patch notes in two. Major changes include a complete reworking of the onboard lights, more lenient AI guards, and improved terrain detail on the old planetside. However, the update covers almost everything from audio mixing and server improvements to a truly vast array of UI tweaks.

Odyssey was famously released in a rather shoddy state, so much so that Frontier CEO David Braben was forced to issue an apology. Since then, the expansion has received several major bug-fix updates and is getting closer and closer to ship-shape. It's just a shame that between the puppet-like NPCs and unmotivated missions, Odyssey's biggest problems require more than bug fixes.
