Acer's RTX 30 Series Gaming Notebooks Boost GPU Speed for Free

Acer gaming laptops are getting an extra boost. Machines such as the Nitro 5, Predator Helios, and Predator Triton 300 will see their graphics performance boosted from 5 watts to 30 watts with a free firmware update.

It is not every day that a manufacturer raises the TGP of a laptop's GPU significantly after it comes to market; raising the TGP (Total Graphics Power) means that more power is poured into the system's GPU, increasing its performance Meaning. At least in theory.

We won't know until we actually get our hands on a laptop with this new update and see how much fps it improves while gaming; we know what Acer is doing, and the cooling system in these gaming laptops is designed to help the higher-powered GPUs I have to hope that it is sufficient to deal with the extra heat generated. If not, the chips may reach their thermal limits and throttle back under severe loads.

But assuming this works out well for Acer, it would be easy for other OEMs to pull off a similar trick with their own notebooks, simply by adjusting the system's power levels to extract even higher performance.

Marcel Behm, senior business manager at Acer Germany, released a statement on the update, saying, "Our claim for our gaming hardware is to provide the best possible balance of CPU and GPU performance, volume, and endurance Our claim for our gaming hardware is to provide the best possible balance of CPU and GPU performance, volume, and durability. Therefore, we are pleased to be able to offer improved graphics performance to interested buyers and many of our existing customers with the BIOS update.

The ComputerBase staff has analyzed the extent to which Acer gaming laptops can improve TGP and has compiled a handy chart at the bottom of this article.

Interestingly, the Helios 300 with RTX 3060 gets a whopping +30W TGP boost after the update. It will be interesting to see how this change affects system stability, GPU temperatures, and of course frame rates.

It will also be interesting to see if the end user can easily undo the change if they feel that the volume is suddenly louder than they are comfortable with.

We asked Acer for comment on the update.
