Destiny 2' Best Exotic Weapons Nerfed

This week's latest issue of This Week at Bungie is chock full of upcoming weapon tweaks and tuning, sandbox-y stuff on specific perks, information on the "Master Vault of Glass" raid, and some vague ideas about the future of the game. The contents of the report. But the big hit is on Destiny 2's best PvE gun: anarchy.

Anarchy was so powerful that it was "on the verge of busting," Tim wrote in a recent analysis of seasonal artifact resets. What is interesting about the anarchy is that it was initially treated as a bit of a gimmick. The weapon fires an electrically charged grenade that attaches to the target, creating a deadly arc field between where the shot is fired.

Not surprisingly, most players initially used this for zone control, burning away waves of onrushing enemies with a single flash. (The shot could also be attached to a teammate or vehicle, opening up the possibility for further memes.) But as he became more familiar with the weapon, it became clear that he was also the king of DPS.

Not because the Anarchy does insane damage on its own, but because of its combo potential with other weapons. The best use of anarchy is to stick two 'nades into a target with high health, then switch to a special weapon like a sniper rifle or grenade launcher and go to town while it ticks around doing damage.

So anarchy is good for dealing with both mob hordes and bosses. But that's not all. Because it deals damage over time, it is surprisingly safe and easy to use in high-end content. Simply crouch behind cover, face up and fire a couple of Anarchy shots at the target, then step back while the target does its job Redditor Spynn has a good guide to this weapon, but the point is that Anarchy is a power weapon slot over time from most of the other exotics.

So it is hardly surprising that Anarchy's glory days are coming to an end. Bungie says, "Anarchy has accomplished too much over the years (this season's boost is due to the grenade launcher artifact mod). Bungie writes, "That's why we're making changes to make the grenade launcher less of an all-around player and more of a jack-of-all-trades in a few roles."

Initial reaction to the looming nerf on Reddit was very muted, suggesting that players saw this coming and the toning down was probably premature. In fact, there seems to be a sense of relief among some Reddit users that Anarchy will no longer be mandatory for hard PvE content." Honestly, thank God. I was sick of using Anarchy for every high-end activity and raid LFG.

Some others have hinted that the change will not affect them at all, as they will just switch to Witherhoard, another grenade launcher that was only slightly overpowered when it came out in 2020. Of course, there are memes.

As for exotic weapons to replace anarchy, we'll keep an eye on the Sleeper Simulant, which will belatedly benefit from the buffs that other linear fusion rifles have received, like the Deathbringer and Two-Tailed Fox. Rocket launchers are also already quite powerful and will be even more active.

The timing of the nerf is undecided, but Bungie has stated that it is planned for the "near future." The full update, which includes various changes scheduled for next week, can be enjoyed at bungie.net.
