Mortal Kombat 11 is finished, NetherRealm is moving on to a new project.

More than two years after its April 2019 release and 12 characters added since release, "Mortal Kombat 11" has officially ended; NetherRealm Studios said today on Twitter that it is time to move on to other things and no more content will be created ...

"NetherRealm is now focused on its next project, and after more than two years of supporting "Mortal Kombat 11," the DLC, including characters, has ended," the studio tweeted.

Mortal Kombat fans may be disappointed that the 90s movie cameo no longer appears in the earthly realm, but for every bad news there is good news: NetherRealm is moving on to something new. Nothing was said about what that new thing might be, but our guess is that something about "Injustice 3" will be said in the relatively near future.

For those unfamiliar with the name Injustice, it is a fighting game very similar to Mortal Kombat, but with characters from DC Comics and an emphasis on single-player. In fact, in our 85% review of Injustice 2, we wrote, "The gorgeously staged story is ...... It tells the Batman vs. Superman story significantly better than the movie."

An unofficial trailer for Injustice 3 surfaced in August 2020, but hopes that it would be unveiled at a subsequent Fandome event were not fulfilled. But that's not the only possibility: in recent months, rumors have also surfaced that NetherRealm is working on a Marvel fighting game, with Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon alluding to the possibility in May.

Given that NetherRealm is owned by Warner Bros. (the parent company of DC Comics) and that British studio Rocksteady is working on "Suicide Squad," it seems unlikely: take on the Justice League. However, " In a world where "Fortnite" has become the punchbowl for every brand known to mankind, a space-faring fighting game may be exactly what's next for NetherRealm, which has pulled characters from various franchises for "Mortal Kombat

The company is also working on a new game, "Mortal Kombat.
