Call of Duty: Warzone" Hacker Joins Squad of Streamers, Forces Game to Crash

Just 24 hours after the last Call of Duty: Warzone cheater check-in, we have a new reason to watch out for suspicious players, as Warzone cheaters are now able to force players to crash their games under certain circumstances Thomas "Tommey" Trewren, a streamer at 100 Thieves, learned this lesson firsthand during a live stream on July 1.

"This user joined our lobby, said hi, and then gave me a developer error. He included a clip of the encounter in a follow-up tweet.

In the clip, a hacker (who appears to have a username with a jumble of symbols not normally available on Warzone) joins Trewren's lobby and starts asking streamers if they want to know anything about Warzone. Trewren clearly thinks the hacker were bragging about their exploits on their stream, and denied it.

The hacker replies, "I have no idea. Zero. The hacker is heard to start typing through the microphone, and a few seconds later the stream freezes; Trewren receives a "dev error" screen that is not visible from the stream, meaning the game has completely crashed. This was apparently the second time the same user had joined the lobby and forced an error. A bit worrisome!

As several responses to Trewren's tweet have pointed out, the sudden crash may have something to do with the hacker's unusual username, which happened many times in "Rainbow Six Siege" before Ubisoft fixed the exploit. This is just my best guess as to what the hackers are doing here, but given that most cheaters choose to blend in with a humble name like xxDelta_POG47, their impossibly complex username is worth noting.

Forcing them to crash the game is a rather intimidating ploy, but there is no need to panic. The crash was most likely possible because Trewren was 1) targeted as a popular streamer and 2) somehow left the squad open for hackers to join. If hackers need to join your squad to lock up the game, the millions of average Warzone players probably don't need to worry so much.

Still, Warzone's cheat infestation is a reminder that this is a major problem that Activision has not properly addressed since the game launched over a year ago. We have contacted Activision about this possible hack and will update the article when we know more.
