Final Fantasy 14" breaks Steam's concurrent user record

According to SteamDB, Final Fantasy 14 has recorded 47,542 concurrent players in the last 24 hours. This surpasses the 41,200 players recorded when players returned for the Shadowbringers expansion in June 2020 (numbers courtesy of SteamDB). This time, however, it was not due to the new addition of Final Fantasy 14. Endwalker will not be released until November. Most of them seem to be disgruntled World of Warcraft players who followed popular WoW streamers like Asmon Gold and started another MMO while WoW was in a lull.

The peak in player numbers came the day after Asmongold began streaming to his more than 2 million followers. He is not alone; CohhCarnage also recently began this streaming. Their viewers, and all the WoW streamers who grew frustrated while waiting 218 days for the Chains of Domination update, are getting a taste of the best MMO they can play in 2021. So far, they seem to like it.

In the past, all Blizzard needed to do to win back WoW players was to beat it with the next update or expansion. Maybe it will happen again, maybe FF14 has what it takes to hold new players together, I have it on good authority that FF14 is a critically acclaimed MMORPG with a free trial to level 60, including the Heavenward expansion! ...
