Michelle Yeoh in Netflix's prequel series "The Witcher: Blood Origins"

Michelle Yeoh has been cast in Netflix's Witcher prequel The Witcher: Blood Origin

Yeoh will play Sian, described as "the last of a nomadic clan of sword fairies" and "a sword artist on a deadly quest that will change the fate of a continent." She plays the role of Xian, who is described as "a sword artist on a deadly quest that will change the fate of the continent. She will co-star with Laurence O'Gradyne, who will play a warrior named Fiyal. Jodi Turner-Smith was originally cast as the main character in Blood Origin, but dropped out due to scheduling conflicts.

This should be a perfect fit for Yeoh, who has cemented her status as a pretty badass actress over the years, including literally jumping a moving train on a motorcycle in Police Story 3/Super Cop and earning numerous nominations for Crouching Tiger/Hidden Dragon.

The Witcher: Blood Origin was announced last year and will be a six-part film set 1,200 years before the Henry Cavill series. This is before the Conjunction of the Spheres, an event that mashed all monsters, humans, and other creatures into one dimension. The series will tell the story of the events leading up to the Conjunction and the birth of the first Witcher.

This is not the only entertainment based on The Witcher that Netflix has planned. Filming for Season 2 of The Witcher wrapped at the end of April, and the series is expected to be released by the end of 2021. An animated adaptation called "Nightmare of the Wolf" is also in the works; not much is known about that one yet, aside from a frightening logo that will be released at the end of 2020.
