Bethesda and Xbox Donate $10,000 to Humane Society in Honor of Dog Meet

Few animals are as famous in video games as the Dogmeat. First introduced in the original "Fallout," this canine companion was a huge pain in the ass, but also a very nice dog (as all dogs are).

Dogmeat has been a staple of "Fallout" ever since, and while it's naturally not always the same dog since "Fallout 1" and "Fallout 4" are over a century apart, it has appeared in every game in the main series as a similarly spiritual presence: tough, loyal, An unquestionable companion, for which we all take many a bullet without hesitation, the latest version of Dogmeat to appear in Fallout 4 is actually modeled after a real-life dog named River.

Sadly, River died in June: his owner and lead level designer of "Fallout 4," Joel Burgess, shared a touching eulogy on Twitter: "Her intentions were pure, but her judgment was not always perfect."

In honor of River's passing, Bethesda and Microsoft donated $10,000 to the Montgomery County Humane Society and shared a link for those wishing to donate as well. Montgomery County, Maryland, is home to the town of Rockville, where Bethesda Softworks is headquartered.

The Humane Society operates solely on donations and income from private programs. Services provided by the Humane Society include animal sheltering and foster care, spay/neuter, microchipping, low-cost clinics for vaccinations, pet food pantries, and educational programs.

The Montgomery County Humane Society said in response to the donation, "We are honored to be a part of River's legacy."
