Free New DLC for The Witcher 3 Based on Netflix Shows

It's been almost six years since The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt was released on PC: its grand finale, the "Blood and Wine" DLC, has been available for over five years. Despite its antiquity, new content is on the way: a "next-gen update" for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC is scheduled for later this year, as well as new DLC content based on the Netflix series.

More information on the new content is "coming soon," but whether that means after today or later this year is anyone's guess at this point. Before we get our hopes up too high, let's just say that this DLC is not about exploring new locations or completing quests: the cover art for the "Complete Edition" of The Witcher 3 has been updated with "additional items inspired by the Netflix series", In other words, it states that it will include swords, armor, and something nice for Roach.

The addition of new items is not unprecedented: CD Projekt delivered 16 free DLC packages after the launch of The Witcher 3, including new quests, costumes, contracts, Gwent cards, etc. The sudden appearance of new content for a six-year-old game is certainly unusual but it is arguable that a release on a next-generation console is "new."

Regardless, the new content is free (and I'm a big fan of free), and while it may not be enough to justify playing it again (or maybe it is?), it's a good thing. A specific release date for the next-gen version of The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt has yet to be announced, but just in case, CD Projekt has stated that anyone who already owns the game can upgrade for free. We've reached out to the studio for more details on the new elements and will update when we know more.

If you can't wait for the free stuff, here's how a few mods can make the video game Geralt look like Netflix's Geralt.
