Favela, the most hated map in Rainbow Six Siege, is now on Ranked.

Favela, the most hated map in Rainbow Six Siege, is now on Ranked.

Historically the most hated map in Rainbow Six Siege will be one of the first to make the jump from casual play to the ranked map pool in an upcoming patch Favela, a highly destructible map added in 2016, was the North Star of Siege recently update and received a complete rework. While this map update was intended as a "casual rework" for quick play only, Ubisoft is now confident that the map is well balanced for Siege's most competitive mode.

"We know you want to give it a chance under the moonlight. I know you want to give it a chance under the moonlight," Ubisoft tweeted on Wednesday.

The reborn Favela has undergone significant layout changes to address common complaints while maintaining its visual identity. The most significant change is to the outside of the map, where the number of destructible walls has been significantly reduced.

Previously, the sheer number of walls to reinforce and cover made defending bombsite frustrating. On the attacker's side, the map's flexibility gave spawn peakers countless opportunities for easy kills; it was reworked in a similar framework to other map renos in Siege. There is more than enough space for bomb sites, fewer opportunities for spawn peeks, and more stairs for easier navigation.

New Favela already feels like a Ranked map in many ways, with one important difference: every map had a night variation until Ubi removed it in 2018 for balancing reasons (attackers were a bit hidden in the dark outside (too much). Given that night is the only way to play Favela, Ubi must have changed its mind.

According to Ubi, the positive feedback in Favela's first few weeks led to the decision to add it to Ranked. To be fair, it's hard to tell if any map is balanced until players have been using it for a few months, but I'm enjoying the tweaks so far. You can play Ranked's Favela on Siege's test server right now, or you can wait a few more weeks for patch Y6S2.2.
