Summer Game Doon Quick" Sets Online Record, Collects Nearly $3 Million

This year's Summer Games Done Quick raised a total of $2,897,704 for Doctors Without Borders after the seven-day event, breaking the previous record for donations made solely through online distribution.

For those unfamiliar with Summer Games Done Quick, much of the money was raised through bidding wars (choosing characters, save file names, etc.) and donations to meet challenge goals to change the speedrun rules. One bidder donated $155.73 to name the inquisitor in Dragon Age: Inquisition "Bingus" ("Anders," "Doggy," and "Honk" were not successful bids, but were still donated), to have Celeste play with the catgirl mod The event raised as much as $51,038.82 for the Because "Yes.... Celeste is good. But what if it was Madeline the catgirl?"

If you missed any of the runs, you can watch the VOD on Twitch or YouTube; Games Done Quick events always amaze me with the breadth of speedruns of the games. Sometimes it's finding glitches and exploits, sometimes it's perfect reflexes, sometimes it's a deep understanding of world geography.

The main Games Done Quick website also accepts donations for Doctors Without Borders.
