Bloober Team Kicks Off New Silent Hill Rumors, But There's Still Hope

Bloober Team, the studio behind Layers of Fear, announced a "strategic cooperation agreement" with Konami last month, fueling rumors that the Polish studio known for horror games would develop a new Silent Hill game. Since then, the Internet sleuths have found three codenamed projects on the Bloober Team-owned Creative Europe grants website, none of which really sound like a Silent Hill game, but some on the net have apparently concluded that it is That didn't stop some on the net from adding that it was.

However, according to Tomasz Gawlikowski, CMO of Bloober Team, who responded to IGN's inquiries, that is not the case; Gawlikowski referred to each project and said that Project H20 was already released, "a game about the codename for Layers of Fear 2, so it is not particularly exciting, he said.

Other projects sounded interesting: a project code-named Dum Spiro was a fourth wall-breaking horror game set in the Litzmannstadt, a Polish Jewish ghetto during World War II. The Creative Europe grant document states, "Players take on the role of an imprisoned boy, struggling against all odds to hide and save his sister."

But it has been canceled, at least for now. After many iterations of 'Dame Spiro,' we have come to the conclusion that it is not possible at this time to have the proper sensitivity to the subject and at the same time offer it in a commercially viable form," Gawlikowski said. In short, 'Dame Spiro' is not currently in an active development phase."

Another on the dubious list was the project "Black," described as "an unconventional fusion of the medieval and the alien." This concept had the potential to create "spin-offs set in other historical periods," according to the grant document.

But don't expect such a game anytime soon." The original idea for "Black" has also been shelved, and while the game is still being developed under this codename, it is now a much different project than what can be read on the web these days.

The studio has two games in development, neither of which is related to the current rumor. Bloober Team has two active internal projects, one in production and one in pre-production. Both are likely to be larger than "Medium," but neither is based on the themes and premises that have been circulating on the Internet for the past few days.

This is not a direct denial that the studio will not make a Silent Hill game, but Gawlikowski was not positive about IGN's relationship with Konami. But hey, if the rumors are anything to go by, fans still think Abandoned could be a Silent Hill game. Konami, could you make a Silent Hill game?
