General
8-core Intel Comet Lake CPUs for only $240 are now available.

It was only a few months ago that Intel's 10th generation Core i7 10700K (Comet Lake) graced the list of the best CPUs for gaming and took its place as a bargain proposition. More recently, it has been replaced by the 11th generation Rocket Lake chips, but the 10700K remains a strong choice. In particular, it is currently on sale at Newegg for $239.99.

As far as I can recall, this is the lowest price ever. It is actually on sale for $269.99 (too high from $359.99), but applying coupon code "794FLSH76" at checkout takes an additional $30 off, making it the lowest price yet.

Should you build a new PC now or wait a bit (Intel Alder Lake is about to launch, and with it memory will move to DDR5), that's a decision you'll have to make. There is no right or wrong answer, just pros and cons to both.

If you are currently trying to build a PC (or upgrade an existing one), the 10700KF is the same chip as the previously mentioned 10700K with no integrated graphics as indicated by the "F" ("K" is an unlocked to help overclocking (indicating the magnification factor). [It is an 8-core/16-thread processor with a base clock of 3.8 GHz, a maximum turbo frequency of 5.1 GHz, and 16 MB of L3 cache. This chip is comparable to AMD's Ryzen 7 5800X based on the Zen 3. AMD's is a bit faster overall, but it is also priced over $400 (on sale on Amazon for $449 to $406).

The difference would be better spent on a GPU (if available), more/faster storage and RAM, or a high-end motherboard.
