Trackmania developers analyze 15 years of records to root out cheaters

In late May of this year, cheat allegations began to catch up with some of Trackmania's fastest players, and after months of investigation by YouTuber Wirtual and co-investigator donadigo, videos containing damning evidence against seven top players, including the very popular Trackmania streamer Riolu, were posted. Videos containing incriminating evidence against players were posted.

Records are everything in Trackmania, and this investigation revealed that the cheating spanned multiple Trackmania games and continued for over a decade. The full story can be found here, but in short, the cheaters were using software to "play" the game at slower speeds, allowing for input speeds that were not possible under normal conditions (one player confessed to Wirtual through DM that he used 40-80% game speed (One player confessed to Wirtual via DM that he was using 40-80% game speed).

This evidence is damning and the developer Nadeo is now taking action. Studio head Florent Castelnérac announced today that they have found a fix and that his team has analyzed Trackmania's records for the past 15 years and found cheater records. The majority of the cheated records were from just 10 accounts.

Castelnérac added, "By the way, this could have been easily fixed if only one cheater had told us. To all the record hunters who may have spent hours with sometimes unfair competitors, we apologize for the inconvenience."

It always warms my heart to see cheaters stand up to justice. Castelnerac also noted that although he did not want to go into the details of the anti-cheat measures for obvious reasons, he "would like to publicize that the number of fair records exceeds 99% and is close to 100%."

As for Wirtual, he said, "I am pleased that Nadeo has thoroughly investigated the cheating incident and is now taking appropriate action. Well done. Well done.
