General
The PC version of "Call of Duty: Cold War" supports the PS5 haptic trigger.

When the PS5 launched last year and people talked about how cool the tactile sounds and resistive triggers of the DualSense controller were, my first question was: Will it work on PC?"

Treyarch was one of the first to do so with Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War's latest update, and was one of the first to do so. [When you connect your DualSense controller and launch Cold War from Battle.net, you will see several new options under the controller menu. There is one to turn the trigger haptics on and off, and a slider to adjust the trigger vibration intensity.

The options are a bit buried, but here they are:

I was curious to see how useful this feature would be, so I hung up my Deathadder mouse and plugged the controller into Call of Duty for the first time in years. If you are using a dual-sense controller, haptics is on by default, so you can jump right into the game and try it out. You will quickly notice that almost every action in the game is reflected in the little directional sounds on different parts of the controller. This is pretty neat, but after spending a night with haptics turned on, I had second thoughts.

The problem lies in the resistance trigger. Depending on the gun I'm using, pulling the left trigger to aim requires extra force. I don't know how much it slows down aiming, but in a fast-paced competitive FPS it feels like an unnecessary obstacle. Resistance is also present on the right trigger, but I prefer the resistance associated with the action of shooting (the actual trigger can be difficult to pull). In addition to fighting my fingers, the trigger itself also makes a rumbling noise while shooting.

I've been using the DualSense in PS5 games for a few months now, and for the most part I love the resistive trigger; in Returnal, a half pull on the left trigger executes normal aiming, and a full pull switches the gun to secondary mode. This feels great every time, but I'm not worried about controller-based immersion in Call of Duty multiplayer. What I'm worried about is pulling my trigger before the jerk in front of me pulls his. Shooting quickly in Cold War means walking the path of least resistance, but the PS5's trigger is literally the path of more resistance.

So while I'm glad that developers are starting to add all the dual-sense features to PC games, I'm going to turn most of them off in Cold War. I also plan to remove the controller altogether and revert to a mouse.
